Birthday Simulation

  • Birthday simulation
    1. First enter in 22 for the Number in room, and then repeatedly try to Simulate until you have conducted 100 trials. What is the probability? Write it in your notes.
    2. Check with your neighbors. Did any of you have a probability over 50% for 22 people?
    3. Click Reset and then repeat the simulation of 100 trials, this time for 24 people in the room.
      -What is the probability? Write it on the board and in your notes.
      -Examine the class responses to see whether they indicate that betting on this result would give you at least even odds.
    4. For homework I asked you to ask around to see whether any two people on your floor have the same birthday--and record the number of people you ask.
      -Click Reset and then enter the number of people you asked and repeat the simulation for 100 trials for that number of people.
      -What was the probability of two people having the same birthday? Record this in your notes.
    5. Did anyone on your floor have the same birthday?
