Selling Your Stock
We will see what happens if we sell our stock this week (and we'll repeat this again next week too).
- Take out Total "Purchase" Price (previous) handout and write today's date on it.
- "Sell" your stock:
Go to
finance.yahoo.com,
and enter your symbol.
- What is your Bid price?
(Ignore the "x 100" or similar part of the Bid price -
you want the price per share that comes before this).
If you don't see a Bid
price then take the Last Trade price and subtract .125 from it.
- Gain or Loss:
Compute
Bid price x 100 - commission fee 9.99 - money you
originally spent to purchase 100 shares of the stock
SHOW WORK!
- On the front board, mark off [1 per group who you created your graph
with] whether your group gained or lost money
by adding the stock symbol and the gain or loss to the relevant gain/loss columns.
Notice that in order to make money, you need to at least make
enough to cover the 2 commission fees (paid once for buying and once for selling)
