  • Thur, Feb 22 Introduction to abstract vector spaces (4.2). R^n is a vector space with operations defined in 4.1. Linear combinations of vectors by hand, on Maple, and geometrically. Homework for Tues p. 169 31 and 33, start working on PS 4, and work on test revisions.

  • Thur, Feb 15 Meet in 203 Go over recent bulletin board postings on WebCT. Finish 3.4 via geometric applications of dets and cramer's rule on LAMP Chapter 3 Module 7 sections 5 and 6. By the end of lab, turn in a summary of what you learned. Homework PS 3 due Fri, see solutions on WebCT this weekend and study for test 1 (see review sheet on main class web page) which is on Tues.

  • Thur, Feb 1 Finish 2.3, review class web pages, Maple commands for PS 2, and start on 2.5 applications via LAMP Module 3.4 on Markov Chains, p. 107 -114 (up to but not including ex. 3a). If time remains, students can work on PS 2. Homework Review 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and LAMP p. 107-114, and continue to work on Problem set 2.

  • Tues, January 16 Section 1.2 continued. Review by doing LAMP 1.2 section 2 by hand (contest to see who gets the answer fastest), and then going thru the solution and Maple commands. Do the same with Section 4 and 5. Start section 1.3. Do Lamp 1.3 section 1 on fitting a curve to to data, then review book p. 27 example 4, then numbers 21 and 23. HomeworkRead book section 1.3, and skim lamp modules 1.2 and 1.3. Make sure you can get into WebCT (look at solutions and my postings at least twice a week), and study for WebCT quiz next Tues on book 1.2 and related activities. Work on PS 1 (see main class web page).

Intro to class web pages, WebCT for the first time only, html of powerpoint presentation, Section 1.2 Homework for Tuesday See my solutions to homework problems from section 1.1 on the WebCT bulletin board forum entitled "solutions", which I will create and post (late) tonight sometime. Read section 1.2 in the textbook, do problems 1.2 numbers 13-20, 21, 23, 27, 31, 35, 41, 47. I should be around tomorrow at 2:45ish if anyone has questions, and I will also be answering bulletin board questions. Please stop bye and/or post if you have questions.
