  • Roaches Take Over the World Writing Project DUE Wednesday, January 20th by 5 p.m., Revisions due Mon, February 1st
  • Maple Project 1 Problem Set B, in lab Manual #5,7 (in 7, for those Maple can't do, do them by hand, or go thru the methods we know to show you can't do them by hand). Due Wed, February 3rd by 5pm. Work in groups of 2 or 3 and turn in 1 per group. Revisions due Fri, Feb 12th by 5pm.
  • Maple Project 2 Problem Set B in lab Manual #14,15,16 due Mon, February 15th by 5pm. Work in groups of 2 or 3 and turn in 1 per group. Revisions due Wed, February 24th at 5pm.
  • Exam 1 on Chapters 2 and 3 NOT including numerical methods on Fri, February 26th Test Revisions (optional) DUE Mon 15th at 5pm.
  • Maple Project 3 Problem Set C in lab Manual #4,7 and 12, due Fri, March 12th at 5pm. Work in groups of 2 or 3 and turn in 1 per group. Revisions due Mon, March 22
  • Exam 2 on Maple - numerical methods on Fri, March 26th1 81/2 by 11 sheet with writing on both sides allowed. Be sure you know how to submit things to my shared folder (see class highlights page under Fri, Feb 12th). Study demos 5 and 6, HW set C, and the Maple comparisons (the solution of Sherri Sisler, Amy Ozmon, Mindy Garner, Scott Miller is up under the Maple highlights page down by March 17th.)   • Final Project plan due Tuesday, April 20th Work in groups of 2. Your project proposal should include a list of references of journals, books (include page numbers), web sites, and/or people you've talked to. See sample which I handed out (copies are on my door if you missed class).
  • Maple hw 4 Problem Set D 3,4,5,6,7,9 due Monday, April 26.
  • Maple Test 3 take home during the week of April 26th-30th. Review session in class Monday the 26th, at which time the test web address will be given out. 1 8 1/2 sheet with writing on both sides allowed. Maple help is allowed, but Maple demos are NOT allowed. Demos 7, 8, 9 and 10 form the bulk of the test. Address of test:

  • Final Exam (ie Final Project Presentations) has been moved forward from Fri to Monday from 12-2 Pizza or something will be provided. - Pick a real life application/experiment relating to D.E.s. With another partner, research your topic via journals, the web or other texts. Prepare a 15 minute presentation of your project. Prepare a maple worksheet which details your conclusions and is suitable for someone who has taken the class but is not present at your presentation. In other words, anything which is said at your presentation should be in the Maple worksheet. Be sure to include a list of references! Some possibilities for topics: Compare real life data of population growth, the motion of a spring or something else to expected Maple models. Research the environmental polution of a real lake, obtain data about AIDS and compare to a DE model with a numerical method solution, or find some other real life situation with a complicated DE maple won't solve and use a numerical method on it.
