Teacher's Notes for Magic Square Bingo
Hand out two copies of the 3x3 magic square arrays
to each student.
Have the students cut one of the sheets
into nine individual square pieces, with one number on each piece.
The pieces will fit onto the uncut array.
While demonstrating a transformation of
the square acting to form a new magic square, ask the class to place the square
pieces on top of the old magic square to indicate their new places.
This activity
is great for visualization, and it helps develop geometric intuition.
The teacher could perform the transformation
on an overhead projector and then ask the students to perform the same
transformation at their seats (see also
Activity Sheet 2 and
Teacher’s
Notes for Activity Sheet 2).
