Influences

Some influences on Mary Gray are her two advisors William R Scott and Lee Meyers Sonneborn and her husband Alfred Gray. William Scott received his Ph.D from Ohio State University in 1947. His dissertation was on Essentially Absolutely Continuous Transformations. Lee Sonneborn received his Ph.D from California Institute of Technology. He did his dissertation on Level Sets on Spheres.

Her husband, ALfred Gray, finished his undergraduate work in 1960 at the University of Kansas. He received his Ph.D from UCLA in 1964. He spent four years at the university of California, Berkeley and then went to the University of Maryland. He has remained at Maryland since 1970. He spoke several languages, including French, German,Spanish and knew Arabic, Japanese, and Serbo-Croat. His main research interest were Differential Geometry, Complex Variables. and Differential Equations.
