A glimpse of LES-C Models
Navier Stoke Equations(NSE) are used to simulate the fluid flow various fields like aerodynamics,
atmospheric science, cardiovascular mathematics. Large Eddy Simulation models are widely used to
simulate NSE especially when modeling the turbulent flow. A recent study has generated a new family of
simulation models called Large Eddy Simulation with Corrections(LES-C), which reduces modeling errors
in Large Eddy Simulation models using a predictor - corrector scheme.
The superiority of LES-C model against LES models was tested for several benchmark problems like flow
past full step, flow past a cylinder using various models in LES family like Approximate Deconvolution
Model(ADM), NS-alpha and Leray-alpha. There, the new models were known as Approximate
Deconvolution with Correction(ADC), NS-alpha-C and Leray-alpha-C.
Furthermore, the temporal accuracy of the the LES-C was improved using the deferred correction,
introducing the LES-C with deferred correction models. The method uses the already existing LES-C
structure, adding several terms to the right hand side of the correction step. This allows for the increase in
accuracy at no extra computational cost.
Moreover, the study was extended to the Magneto-hydrodynamic(MHD) system. There, the MHD system
was decoupled using the Elsässer variables which enabled to use LES or LES-C models in MHD in a
similar way to NSE. It was demonstrated using ADM in the LES family and the new model was introduced
as ADC-MHD.
This talk will be a brief discussion on LES-C models and related research.
