Logisitic Functions

The logistic function
L(x) = 8

 1 + 2 ebx
is graphed with b varying from -1 to +1. Note the two different horizontal asymptotes.

The logistic function was first described by Pierre Verhulst, a Belgian mathematician. This function is widely used in population growth, disease modeling, and technology introduction studies. Economists call the inflection point the point of diminishing returns.
