Joseph Stein's Parents and Siblings

They came from the town of Ostrog in the Volhynia Gubernia (284 km. (170.4 miles) west of Kiev) in modern day Ukraine (Russia back then).

Note: there is a Hyman Stein who was a witness to the 1919 marriage of Yetta Stein to Abe Bogatz, living at 1981 Marmion Av Bronx. Further there is a 1925 census says Hyman was naturalized in NYC in 1924. Furrier. Russia. Age 45. Wife Rose age 48, Children Solomon 19, Mildred 17, Sylvia 15, Benjamin 13, and Joseph 11. There is a boat record that seems to be the wife and kids in 1920, coming from Poland, but then the 1930 census says Hyman is from Poland while the rest of the family is from Russia.

1928 death of Sarah Stein Weiner Tucker buried Mt Zion Ostrog Society. Certificate 29391. Died Nov 29, 1928. 181 Clinton, Manhattan. Age 65. Born Nov 1 1863 Russia. Father Benjamine Stein. Mother Annie Rosen. Spouse Sam Tucker. Stone says beloved mother Sarah Weiner age 68 Sarah bat Beniamin, and has Tucker at the very bottom of the stone.

Note: Many of the Stein's are burried in Beth David in Elmont in a family plot. There is an Ostrog section of that cemetery too, but not searchable online. On a visit there we can search.
