In
the spring of 2001, while attending Appalachian State University, I
participated in a class study, conducted by Dr. Sarah Greenwald (http://www.cs.appstate.edu/~sjg/index.html),
on Women and Minorities in Mathematics.(http://www.cs.appstate.edu/~sjg/wmm/) This class was a window into the roles
that women and their plights played in the historical development of
mathematics. This webpage is
dedicated to one such woman.
Emmy
Noether was only the second woman to ever attain a Ph.D in the field of
mathematics. She had to fight long
and hard to be accepted into the male dominated world of science and math. Mathematics brought Noether through WWI
and through the rise of the Nazi party.
But with the help of her family she succeeded. Here is some information that may be helpful in the study of
the woman that made it through a World War and conquered the math world.
