Congratulations to Luuk Jacobs on His Thesis Defense. On November 18, 2025, Luuk Jacobs successfully defended and passed his thesis on Multi-source Causal Bayesian Optimization. We warmly congratulate Luuk on this important achievement, thank him for his contributions to our group, and wish him all the best for his future career and life.
Congratulations, Jake Jenkins!
A huge congratulations to my graduate student Jake Jenkins for being named a finalist in AppState's Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.
This is an outstanding achievement, placing him among the top nine competitors university-wide. Congratulations, Jake-keep up the excellent work!

I wrote a short mini-blog with my notes and reflections on the conference, from Jure Leskovec's keynote on relational foundation models to my own paper and poster on EM-based transfer learning for Gaussian causal models under covariate and target shift, plus thoughts on teaching fundamentals in the LLM era. Read it here: (https://majavid.github.io/icdm2025-conference-notes).
I will serve as a ICDM 2025 Session Chair for Undergraduate and High School Symposium on Saturday, November 15, 2025 (Washington DC, USA).
My paper entitled 'Voting Methods to Prevent Social Disappointment in Elections' has now been published on Springer Nature Link as a chapter of the book "PROMISE - PROMoting AI's Safe usage for Elections." DOI: 10.1007/978-3-031-89853-2_16
My new paper entitled 'EM-Based Transfer Learning for Gaussian Causal Models Under Covariate and Target Shift' has been accepted as a regular paper at IEEE ICDM 2025. This year, ICDM received 785 submissions, of which only 106 were accepted as regular papers, resulting in a highly selective full paper acceptance rate of 13.5 %.
