  • Problem Set 1   Problem Set Guidelines
  • 23 May - Thur
  • Read through the ASULearn solutions. A similar style of explanation is necessary for problem set 1 but not for exercises [where you show work but do not need to fully explain]. Note that I often do much more than what the question asked you to do in order to help you make connections by understanding the bigger-picture and/or diverse methods and perspectives, so reading these count as participation.
  • Exercises to turn in - do these using by-hand row operations since you need to get efficient at the by-hand methods.
    1.2 3, 11, and 19
    1.5 3
Webworks Practice1b. Note: I have fixed the permissions issue. Your username AND password will be your ASUlogin, like greenwaldsj or greenwaldsj1 or similar. If you have any problems, message me on ASULearn.
  • Carefully read through Problem Set Guidelines and write down any questions you have
  • Begin working on Problem Set 1 under Friday's due date.
  • 22 May - Wed
  • Read through the online syllabus carefully. Search google for Dr. Sarah, click on my page, and click on the MAT 2240 link and then the Syllabus link. Prepare to share something you read there and write down any questions you have - the university considers this a binding contract between us.
  • Obtain the textbook and i-clicker available for rental at the bookstore. Bring the i-clicker to all classes.
  • Read p. 1-21 and p. 43 and write down any questions you have.
  • Exercises to turn in - the answers to odd problems are in the back of the book - it is your job to show work. Do these using by-hand row operations since you need to get efficient at the by-hand methods:
    1.1   3, 19, 24 part b
    1.2   7, 21 part e), 31
    1.5   5
Do not worry about getting the correct answer - instead concentrate on the ideas and the methods. This will count as participation and will not receive a specific grade, although I will mark whether you attemped the problems. For true/false questions, if a part is false, provide a specific counterexample, if it is true, quote a phrase and page number from the text.
