  • Read through the study guide for test 2
  • Begin working on homework for Wednesday
  • 11 Jun - Mon
  • Read density portion of 8.4 and work portion of 8.5. Online Wiley 8.4 Practice Problems Parts 1 and 2 (1, 9, 13, 18, 19, 43, ConcepTest 1) and Online Wiley 8.5 Practice Problems Parts 1 and 2(4, 11, 12, 17, 24, Concep 6, Rev 71)
Note that in one problem "Assume both layers are _h m thick." should read Δ h. All but one these integrals are power rule. For the one that is not, concentrate on the setup rather than the integration technique (which is actually w-subs, then integral of the sum is the sum of the integrals, with one being trig sub and the other yet another w-subs!)

  • 8 Jun - Fri
  • Read 8.2. Online Wiley 8.2 Practice Problems Parts 1 and 2 (18, 29, 37, 40, 54, Rev 5, 9, 10)
Hint: you'll need an improper integral for one of these
  • To turn in Paper Homework Review Exercise p. 482 #34. Set up but do not evaluate the integrals.
  • 7 Jun - Thur
  • Read 8.1. Online Wiley 8.1 Practice Problems Parts 1 and 2 (5, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 24, 36)
Hint: you'll need trig sub to integrate sqrt(a^2-h^2) in Part 2, followed by half angle formula to be able to integrate, then a double angle formula to eliminate a double angle so you can convert back to h. #2 in trig sub sols has a similar process in a different setup that you can review.
  • 6 Jun - Wed
  • Test 1 study guide
  • 5 Jun- Tues
  • Read 7.5. Wiley 7.5 Parts 1 and 2 (2, 7, 8a & 9a, 17, 18, 25, Additional 3).
  • To turn in Paper Homework Review Exercises p. 408 140 instructions and 184 part b
  • Write down any questions you have on the study guide. If you have a laptop, tablet or cell, you may wish to bring it with you to access online resources as a portion of class will be devoted to review.
  • 4 Jun - Mon
  • Read 7.6. Wiley 7.6 Parts 1 and 2 (5, 7, 9, 11, 16, 19, 21, 24, 28 and ConcepTest 3)
Note: the practice problems will use w-sub repeatedly, parts, a known integral from the review sheet, partial fractions, and even trig sub. The solutions may not identify the method, but be sure you are able to. Review graphs and limits and l'Hopital's Rule, from calc 1 and prior classes, including graphs of ln(x), exp(x), exp(-x), 1/x, 1/x^2, arcsin(x), tan(x), arctan(x), cos(x) and sin(x), and review quiz 1 since similar integrals will arise in 7.6.
  • Study for quiz 2 on 7.6 (which can include our previous techniques). 7.6 Group work sols, 7.1 Group Work sols, 7.2 Group Work sols, 7.4 Partial Fractions sols, and 7.4 Trig subs sols

  • 1 Jun - Fri
  • To turn in Paper Homework Review Exercises p. 408 28, 88, 128 instructions.
  • Study for quiz 1 on 7.1, 7.2, and 7.4. 7.1 Group Work sols, 7.2 Group Work sols, 7.4 Partial Fractions sols, and 7.4 Trig subs sols
