Note that in one problem "Assume both layers are _h m thick." should read Δ h. All but one these integrals are power rule. For the one that is not, concentrate on the setup rather than the integration technique (which is actually w-subs, then integral of the sum is the sum of the integrals, with one being trig sub and the other yet another w-subs!)
  • Study for quiz 6 on 8.4 Density and 8.5 Work. Group solutions, 8.4 Wiley Part 2 solutions are on ASULearn.

  • 2 Mar - Thur

Integration techniques you'll be using: expand by multiplying out a quadratic and then power rule, w-subs, integral of cosh=sinh, and improper integral followed by parts to integrate ln(x). However, concentrate on the setups for part 1.
  • Study for quiz 5 on 8.1 and 8.2. Group solutions for 8.1. WileyPlus part 2 solutions for 8.1 are on on ASULearn

  • 23 Feb - Thur

Hint: you'll need trig sub to integrate sqrt(a^2-h^2) in Part 2, followed by half angle formula to be able to integrate, then a double angle formula to eliminate a double angle so you can convert back to h. #2 in trig sub sols has a similar process in a different setup that you can review.

Note: the practice problems will use w-sub repeatedly, parts, a known integral from the review sheet, partial fractions, and even trig sub. The solutions may not identify the method, but be sure you are able to. Group work solutions from class are under Monday's date.
  • 7 Feb - Tues

If not, you can pick one up at the start of each class, but must return it by the end of each class. The mathematics department is providing these for our use, but we must share them with other classes.
